Since the field of Urban Political Ecology (UPE) emerged in the 1990s, it has focused on unsettling traditional understandings of the 'city' as an ontological entity separate from 'nature' or 'the environment'. This volume seeks to turn UPE's critical energies towards a politically engaging debate over what role extensive urbanization processes can and should play in addressing socio-environmental equality in the context of climate change.
