""Storm and Calm on the Downs"" is a book written by Ellen E. Lushington and first published in 1884. It is a collection of stories and sketches that depict life on the South Downs, a range of chalk hills in southern England. The book is divided into two parts: ""Storm"" and ""Calm."" The first part focuses on the harsh realities of life on the Downs, including the struggles of farmers and shepherds, the dangers of storms and floods, and the difficulties of living in a remote and isolated area. The second part, on the other hand, celebrates the beauty and tranquility of the Downs, with descriptions of wildflowers, birds, and peaceful landscapes. Throughout the book, Lushington's writing is vivid and evocative, capturing the essence of life on the Downs and the people who call it home. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations. Because we believe this work is culturally important, we have made it available as part of our commitment for protecting, preserving, and promoting the world's literature in affordable, high quality, modern editions, that are true to their original work.
