Nach einem Familienstreit gerät der 13jährige Tom in die magische Anderwelt. Er entkommt dort nur knapp mit Hilfe des Kobolds Magnus, der ihn zu seiner Familie zurückbringen soll. Eine Gruppe Zwerge trachtet ihm sogar nach dem Leben. Doch die eigentlichen Schwierigkeiten beginnen erst, als Tom seine Familie wiederfindet.
