Das vorliegende Buch bietet vielen verschiedenen Disziplinen aus den Bereichen Theologie, Religionspädagogik, Jungenpädagogik und tiefenpsychologischer Filmanalyse (Heldensymbolik) auf ungewöhnliche Weise interessante und aktuelle Bezüge. Anhand der Ergebnisse unterschiedlicher wissenschaftlicher Disziplinen wird dargelegt, woher Faszination und Motivation für die Akzeptanz medialer Stars und alter Heldenmythen stammen, inwieweit gerade bei Jungs heldenhafte Vorbilder wirksam sind und warum in früher wie heutiger Theologie das Thema „Jesus als Held/Jesus als Star" bedeutsam ist. Es wird u. a. auf die Berufsschule als Lebenswirklichkeit vieler junger Menschen sowie die Relevanz von Religion in jugendlichen medialen Lebenswelten eingegangen.Theologisch wird ein christliches Medienverständnis mit Jesus als „lebendigem Symbol" entwickelt. Filme wie „Star Wars", „Harry Potter", „Herr der Ringe" oder „Lola rennt" werden medienpädagogisch und tiefenpsychologisch u. a. mithilfe der Campbell'schen Heldenreise analysiert. Erkenntnisse der Jungenpädagogik über Helden, Stars und Vorbilder bestätigen Aspekte der mythenbezogenen und tiefenpsychologischen Symbolforschung und weisen darauf hin, welch hohen Einfluss diese Faktoren auf die Sozialisation Jugendlicher ausüben.Diese Erkenntnisse werden anhand einer wissenschaftlich fundierten Umfrage bei Berufsschülern auf ihre Relevanz bezüglich Werthaltungen, Vorbildthematik und der Gestalt Jesu untersucht. Kurze Entwürfe für den Religionsunterricht an beruflichen Schulen greifen die Ergebnisse praktisch auf.
