Wie kaum eine andere (ehemalige) Jugendkultur gewann der HipHop - und vor allem der musikalische Ableger Rap - an Popularität. Dabei irritiert Außenstehende insbesondere die häufig rohe und unverhohlen geäußerte sexuelle Gewalt gegenüber Frauen. Dieser Sexismus hat, wie die Autorin zeigt, seinen Ursprung in der Tradition des Battlens und ist zudem auch in der heutigen Zeit Ausdruck einer gesellschaftlichen Grundhaltung der Geschlechter zueinander. Aufgeteilt in einen theoretischen und einen qualitativ-empirischen Teil, versucht die Autorin - als Jugendliche selbst Partizipierende jener Kultur - über ihre Studie, das Phänomen des sexuell aufgeladenen Frauenbildes im HipHop zu ergründen und Handlungsstrategien zu entwickeln, die überwiegend jungen KonsumentInnen mit den Widersprüchlichkeiten und Diskriminierungstendenzen ihrer Subkultur zu konfrontieren und dabei die Ursprünge und Traditionen des HipHop nicht außer Acht zu lassen.
