Dantalión recorre las ruinas humeantes de una España infernal donde se dan cita simultáneamente todas las épocas históricas y literarias. Bajo los bombardeos de una guerra eterna comandada por inquisidores, a través de ciudades en llamas, prostíbulos decimonónicos, pensiones y cadalsos, se diría que el tiempo se ha detenido en una injusticia eterna, donde siempre se benefician y sufren los mismos.
Y sin embargo, cada personaje que Dantalión se encuentra en su camino sostiene un discurso individual de construcción y futuro: Jacob, el hombre-perro que mantiene, a pesar de los horrores que ha sufrido y cometido, un fondo inagotable de pasiones e inocencia nietzscheanas; o Beatrice, la antigua amante que solo se expresa en extremos líricos repletos de faltas de ortografía; incluso Antonio, el asesino en serie de mujeres, lleva un vida regimentada por principios que no carece de sentido. Solo Dantalión ha decidido mantenerse completamente indiferente, y en ello se encuentra acaso la raíz del mal.
