Na 35 jaar in Nederland gewoond te hebben, verhuisde Petra Glorie in 2005 met haar man en twee honden naar Amerika. Naar de staat Noord-Carolina om precies te zijn. Vanwege haar vertrek uit Nederland naar het "verre" Amerika heeft ze vanaf het begin een weblog bijgehouden. En dit boek is een geselecteerde bundel geworden van een aantal korte verhalen die eerder op het blog van Petra gepubliceerd zijn. De verhalen zijn enigszins aangepast naar een boekvorm en vertellen de belevenissen van haar in Amerika. Inclusief de nodige humor die zij veelal aan haar verhalen meegeeft. Haar Nederlandse kijk en nuchterheid is zij ondanks het wonen in Amerika niet kwijt geraakt. En ze bekijkt haar belevenissen veel al door een "Nederlandse bril".
