예전에 저는 무신론자라고 자처했습니다. 배움이 적고 어려운
문제가 많은 사람이 하나님을 믿고 의지하는 것이라 여겼지요. 그
러나 마음에서는 내세를 완전히 부정하지 않았고,‘ 지옥에 가면 어
떻게 하나’ 하는 생각으로 은근히 두렵기도 했습니다. 이러한 사
람이 지금은 담대히 예수 그리스도의 복음을 전하는 주의 종이 된
것은 살아 계신 하나님을 만나고 체험한 까닭입니다.
예수님의 제자가 된 빌립 역시 그랬습니다. 그는 예수님을 직접
만나 그분의 말씀을 들으면서 하나님이 보내신 메시아임을 깨우
쳤습니다. 그 사실을 나다나엘에게 전했는데, 자신의 말을 믿지 못
하는 그에게 빌립은 일단 “와 보라!”(요 1:46)고 담대히 말합니다. 직
접 와서 보면 반드시 믿게 될 것이라는 자신감이 있었던 것입니다.
