The story is set in a remote Alpine principality ruled by a mischievous teen-age Queen Doreen, who commandeers a touring African American teacher to help modernize her backward land. The resulting culture clash reflects the fruits and dangers of building a young democracy in the Age of Telecommunication. Joined in the conflict are crazed peasants, a young scientist, a soothsayer, a calculating politician, giant Romanian puppets and a horde of visiting Amazons bent on world domination.
