The little mermaid could not help thinking of her birthday

y dydd y cododd hi o'r môr am y tro cyntaf

the day that she rose out of the sea for the first time

Dathlwyd dathliadau llawen tebyg ar y diwrnod hwnnw

similar joyful festivities were celebrated on that day

Meddyliodd am y rhyfeddod a'r gobaith ei bod hi'n teimlo'r diwrnod hwnnw

she thought about the wonder and hope she felt that day

gyda'r atgofion dymunol hynny, ymunodd hithau hefyd yn y ddawns

with those pleasant memories, she too joined in the dance

Ar ei thraed poenus, fe wnaeth hi ei hysgwyd ei hun yn yr awyr

on her paining feet, she poised herself in the air

y ffordd y mae gwennol yn potsio ei hun pan yn erlid ysglyfaeth

the way a swallow poises itself when in pursued of prey

Roedd y morwyr a'r gweision yn ei chanmol yn rhyfeddol

the sailors and the servants cheered her wonderingly

Doedd hi erioed wedi dawnsio mor o'r blaen

She had never danced so gracefully before

Roedd ei thraed tendr yn teimlo fel pe baent wedi'u torri â chyllyll miniog

Her tender feet felt as if cut with sharp knives

ond nid oedd hi'n gofalu fawr am boen ei thraed

but she cared little for the pain of her feet

roedd poen llawer mwy miniog yn tyllu ei chalon

there was a much sharper pain piercing her heart
