Germs are invisible to the human eye.  They are tiny and minute and can only be seen under a powerful electronic microscope.  Undenounced to people, they hide in plain sight.  They are everywhere and on everything and are found all over the World.  They can affect people anytime and anywhere without warning.  

Despite being so tiny, germs are powerful, and strong while people can be weak and vulnerable.   They are also dangerous and there is no way to avoid them.  Germs make people sick – extremely sick.

Luckily throughout the World there are many health agencies and health professionals trying to prevent spread of disease-causing germs and help people stay healthy.  However, their help is not enough if people fail to take care of their own personal health and hygiene and neglect to wash their hands more frequently.   

According to the public health agencies, the most effective way for people to prevent getting sick is by thoroughly washing their hands before and after many tasks.  They recommend using soap and water and appropriate handwashing procedures.  By proper handwashing, people can prevent spread of disease germs to others and keep themselves and their loved ones from getting sick.

In addition, parents, teachers, and educators can work with children at their early age on how to properly wash their hands by guiding them and showing them the correct procedures. To help children learn, adults can demonstrate good hand washing through fun filled handwashing activities.  Some of which are demonstrated in this guide “Washing Germs Down the Drain”.  

Working with young children is the best way to promote effective behavioral changes for the future generations with the anticipation that change in behavior in children will continue through their growing years, their adult lives and into old age with the hopes of decreases the spread of illness to self and others from lack of handwashing.

Germs have no idea how destructive they could be, but it is up to people to make changes to their lifestyles so they can be safe, keep others safe and help everyone stay healthy.
