Sich auf das eigene anthropologische Verständnis des Kindes berufend, sieht Montessori das Kind als „Baumeister des Menschen". Es handelt sich zuerst bei der Betrachtung der Bewegung als das Prinzip für die Bildung der Persönlichkeit um die Theorie, die sowohl durch die weit verbreitete Dominanz des naturwissenschaftlichen Denkens, als auch auf der anthropologischen Ebene entwickelt worden ist. Der Begriff der Bewegung kann aber auch grundsätzlich nicht isoliert von der Praxis behandelt werden. Denn die Entscheidung für die Bewegung als das Prinzip der Persönlichkeit läuft für Montessori letztlich auf eine Erfahrungstatsache, in dem Sinne, dass ihre Beobachtungen Montessori die anthropologischen Entdeckungen des wahren kindlichen Wesens und damit zusammenhängende entwicklungspsychologische Analyse für die Kindheit ermöglicht haben. Beide sind also in ihrer Bedeutung aufeinander bezogen und auch voneinander abhängig. Dies hat systematische Konsequenzen für die gesamte Vorgehensweise der Untersuchung.
