[untitled] issue nine
Back in 2009, the first issue of [untitled] was published. It began with a group of students sick of struggling to get published because we were unknown in the industry. We had big ideas. It was going to be quarterly, and we were going to change the world for new and emerging writers!
We soon realised it's not easy to publish an anthology. It's not only a lot of work, but it takes time to collect stories and then produce the book. Quarterly was reduced to twice a year, then down to yearly.
Over the past decade, we've pushed on, while many other publications like this fell away due to lack of funding. We did receive a grant for issue 4 and that buoyed us, but mostly this still exists thanks to the ongoing voluntary work of readers and editors. We cannot underestimate how valuable this is. When you think about a few hundred stories coming in for consideration, with each one read at least twice, that's a lot of hours. I would like to thank the editorial team for this.
We've gathered the stories a little differently this year. Usually, it's by submission and the reading of 4-500 stories. For our tenth issue, we thought we'd run a competition for the whole content. All stories herein were on the longlist. It was exciting to have Laurie Steed as our judge for this issue. We think you'll enjoy the outcome.
We still believe we are the best little pocketbook of new and emerging writers in Australia. This humble anthology was an early publisher of some great Australian writers such as, A S Patric, Ryan O'Neill, George Ivanoff, Les Zig, Tess Evans, Laurie Steed, Laura Elvery, Koraly Dimitriadis and KW George (just to name a few). It's been a tough time in the world over the past two years, but we still have stories. We can escape to them time and again. Happy Reading!
This issue features: Anna Miller, Ben Redwood, Bon-Wai Chou, Daniel T. Car, J.A. Gleeson, Jane Downing, Katrina Burge, Megan Howden, Mick Davidson, Nancy Podimane, Natalie A. Vella, Rosemary Dickson, Seth Robinson, Shaun Allen, Tyler McPherson, and Vicky Daddo.
