Questo saggio storico tratta di "Una patrtita a scacchi" di Giuseppe Giacosa e sviscera molti argomenti e curiosità. Come ammette nel prologo lo stesso Giacosa, egli si è ispirato ad una vicenda medioevale. Posso rivelarvi che la vicenda reale è accaduta nel castello di Issogne, e precisamente alla famiglia degli Challant. Per molti anni, nel forte di Verrès (adiacente a quello di Issogne e che fu dello stesso proprietario) si è messa in scena quest'opera di Giacosa. La particolarità di quest'opera? In realtà ve ne sono tante: la prima, l'opera teatrale è in versi; la seconda, è ispirata ad un fatto accaduto, anche se non proprio come descritto nell'opera; la terza, si tratta davvero di una partita a scacchi. Per un buon giocatore non è difficile immaginarsi le mosse, declamate peraltro dagli attori ad alta voce. Si penserà che l'opera sia "barbosa", data la vicenda, l'epoca ed i versi... No! E' un'opera che si legge con gusto.
