Toward the Rising Sun

In this study, the author argues that the conflict between Russia and Japan came about because of St Petersburg's erratic and confused diplomacy. He explains the key to understanding tsarist involvement in East Asia is to examine the ideas of those who saw imperial destiny in the Pacific.
