10-year-old Jessica, who suffers from a physical disorder that prevents her from being able to smile goes through a series of flashbacks where she was given away to foster care at the young age of 4 years old. Due to her medical condition affecting her face, it made it difficult for her biological mother to nurture and afford her care. Jessica Jones' time at the orphanage was filled with social challenges due to bullying and disappointments after witnessing many others leave the orphanage to their new homes throughout the years.

Jessica eventually finds her way to her heart through the support of another family environment, which then takes her down a path of memory lane. She is faced with old emotions and decisions to contend with, but most of all she is faced with the challenge of right action where she is forced to deal with her past and her potential future. She understands the gravity of that decision as it affects many others along the way.

Through her own determination and resourcefulness, she comes up with an unconventional solution for a challenging time, leading her to learn to trust herself and show others how to overcome their own fears and doubts.

This book is an inspiring book for young females who are learning to trust themselves, and their individuality while learning that they can succeed through the challenges that may present themselves. Though Jessica is forced to face a physical disorder, difficult rejection, perceived abandonment, ridicule by her peers, and deep sensitivity, she still finds the strength, determination, resilience, and resources to extend care, concern, and practical solutions for others in the face of disaster.

One day after school Jessica is mistakenly dropped off at her biological mother's house due to some mix-up with the school's official paperwork and her address. She discovers an alternative life that she was deprived of and is forced to process the pain. After a disturbing precognitive dream of the destruction of her biological family's home, she decided to take matters into her own hands and face them directly to help redirect the course of fate.

Through the help and support of her friends, her new family, and her own determination, she builds a time machine that allows her to go back in time to correct the damage to her biological family's home that could have potentially caused its destruction. In the process, she takes control of her own story, faces her biological mother's regret, and accepts her adoptive mother's support while gaining some new friends and family along the way, gaining access to her biological siblings.
