Die Unbearables sind ein mehr oder weniger loser Zusammenschluss New Yorker Schriftstellerinnen und Schriftsteller, zu denen u. a. Steve Dalachinsky, Bonny Finberg, Ron Kolm, Carl Watson und Chavisa Woods gehören. Sie gründeten sich Ende der 1980er Jahre angesichts des elenden Zustandes der US-amerikanischen Kultur, insbesondere des Fehlens einer wirklichen literarischen Avantgarde. Zu den Gründungsmitgliedern gehörte Hakim Bey, dessen Werk "Temporäre Autonome Zone" auch im deutschsprachigen Raum für Furore sorgte. "Die wirklichen Avantgarden", so schreiben die Unbearables Jim Feast und Ron Kolm, "sehen wir auch bei Straßenaktionen." So besetzten die Unbearables immer wieder einmal die Brooklyn Bridge und lasen den nach Hause trottenden Geschäftsleuten erotische Gedichte vor. Zu den Anthologien der Unbearables gehören "The Crimes of the Beats", "The Worst Book I Ever Read" und "The Unbearables Big Book of Sex".
