Beatrice "Bee" Grey has brought shame upon her family, more specifically her aunt. After her father's passing her Aunt Liana in Scotland had made an advantous marriage and holds on tightly to her new place in society. After hearing of the scandal that Beatrice had found herself involved in, she brings her to England, intending to marry her off and ensure that Beatrice is no longer her problem or threatens her reputation. Bee quickly plans her escape, eventually finding her way to Brighton, and volunteering as a nurse at the army encampment there. When Liana finds out she is enraged and cuts Beatrice off completely withholding the inheritance from her father and dissolving her dowry.
Edmund Hashworth is a rake and a scoundrel. A captain of the dragoons, a respected military man, but the despised eldest son of a Baron. He is on route to gamble,drink, and whore his family's fortune away when his father finally calls it quits. He cuts him off, telling him in no uncertain terms that he is cut off until he takes a wife. Until he cleans his act up.
William Parcel is 16. He is the Captain's secretary, and a dear friend of Bee's. He has the perfect solution for them both. A small talk and only two short days later the Lord and Lady Hashworth find themselves tied together and trekking across France, attempting to play the happily devoted couple. An act that becomes difficult as a persistent figure in Bee's past reappears and threatens the budding romance.
