The Jacobite Peerage Baronage, Knightage and Grants of Honour

By: Maquise de Ruvigny and Raineval, Pub. 1904, reprinted 2024, 292 pages, Index, soft cover, ISBN #978-1-63914-251-4. The majority of this book comes directly from the Unpublished Stuart Papers located within the Windsor Castle Library. This book documents the 200 plus hereditary titles that the Stuarts conferred between 1688-1784 and also the court appointments during this same time frame. Part one of this book contains an alphabetical list of all titles known to have been bestowed during this time frame, of which was the last title conferred by Charles III. A biographical and genealogical account is given for each peer and baronet, together with the names of their children, except in the cases of those peers who appear under some other title in the current peerage. The names of all the titles held by each peer are given, along with the date of its creation and an indication of whether the peerages are English, Scottish, or Irish. The second part covers the court appointments and chivalric honors. It contains a list of the knights created by the Stuarts along with persons to whom certificates of nobility were granted; household, diplomatic, and consular appointments; Catholic archbishops, bishops, and vicars-apostolic nominated by James II and VII and by James III and VIII; and also, those who received naval and military commissions.  Thousands of family and personal names appear throughout, making this work an invaluable source of information on Jacobite family lines
