Description
A young boy named Kodai and his "linked" grizzly bear embark on a journey of epic proportions in this gripping adventure that blends confrontation of destiny, resistance of oppression, and the forging of powerful connections along the way.
Set in an alternate version of our world, one that has reverted to a hunter-gatherer society as a result of a catastrophic event known as "The Great Calamity," humans and animals survive by a unique bond called "linking." While linking with any animal is impressive, linking with a grizzly is unheard of - and it's this rare bond that has some believing Kodai may be "The Animal King," a fabled figure destined to journey to the Arctic and reunite the fractured world. But Kodai remains uncertain of his prophesied role.
From the Northeastern Wildwoods, Kodai's journey takes him across the globe, where he'll face the realization that the line between right and wrong is often more complicated than it seems, and sometimes, it isn't.
Will Kodai fulfill his destiny and reunite his world, or will he fall short in the face of a rising tyrant?

Ryan Goffman is a writer from Northern Vermont, a beautifully secluded area that has inspired his stories about animals and nature. He has been writing for nearly a decade, and The Animal King marks his debut novel. In addition to pursuing a career in writing, he is working on a sequel as well as an anthology of short stories. The author also enjoys shredding the slopes at the nearby snowboarding mountains or hiking the same trails in summer and fall.
