THE AGILE DIGITAL ENTERPRISE

Organizations are facing today an environment of profound and accelerated change and business leaders ponder how to react given their fear of being disrupted. Conversely, the book explores the idea of proactively transforming organizations with focus on the multi-stakeholder value creation opportunities that megatrends and changes can generate and enable.
As leaders envision the transformation of their organizations, the book conveys the importance of adopting the Agile Digital Enterprise system (ADEs) as the destination for the transformation. By developing the attributes of an ADEs, organizations will better capitalize on the potential of their people, processes and digital technologies to achieve superior levels of agility, innovation, responsiveness, customer orientation, employee engagement and change-readiness capabilities.
The book describes the attributes of an ADEs, when organization demonstrates some key attributes, as follows:
o Purpose-driven, values-based, people-centric and learning organization
o Multi-stakeholder perspective (i.e., not only shareholder-centric)
o Digital technologies are extensively used to augment the creativity of the people of the organization and help them to realize their potential
o Technology is the means to an end (rather than the end itself) and it enables the organization to be agile, responsive to customer needs, efficient and innovative
o The organization and its people are comfortable to change, continuously learn and develop change-readiness capabilities
o The organization is seen as a complex adaptive system (rather than a “machine”)
The book also introduces the Business Transformation Canvas (BTC) as a framework to help organizations to take a holistic approach to their transformations. The BTC framework (“the how to”) helps leaders to conceptualize, design and successfully execute the transformation of their organizations.
The BTC facilitates the process of a vision-led journey, especially by integrating a variety of interdependent building blocks to be addressed during the transformation.
