Suzonne delights in taking Andre for a tour of the quaint streets and fountains of St. Pierre known as the Paris of the West Indes. The scent of bakeries and cafes stirred their appetites. It seemed every structure had been crafted of stone with peaked red tiled roofs and many thresholds had zinc awnings.
When they walked past St. Pierre's Cathedral, Andre pulled her toward the door. He kissed her up the stairs and tried the door. Suzonne says, "Andre this is a place of worship and prayer!" He answered, "Then, because I worship you, I pray you do not forget about me."
Suzonne is pressured by Raphael and Adeline to allow the British aristocrat Sir Essex to escort her to the ball instead of Andre.
Andre is to escort Camille. Suzonne and Andre plan mischief at the ball even though they learned Sir Essex is extremely dangerous!
