Denn durch die Schuld als solche kommt es überhaupt dazu, dass jene auch verarbeitet oder bewältigt werden muss. Dies kann durch Strafe oder Sühne geschehen.Zunächst wird in der Arbeit nun genauer beschrieben, was Sühne genau ist, bevor auf Sühne im religiösen Kontext, also der Buße, eingegangen wird. In diesem Punkt wird auch auf die verschiedenen Bußrituale und -möglichkeiten in verschiedenen Religionen eingegangen, wie dem katholischen Christentum, dem evangelischen Christentum, dem Judentum und schließlich dem Islam. Im Anschluss daran befasst sich die Arbeit mit der genauen Differenzierung zwischen Sühne und Strafe, wobei hier auf die Unterschiede zwischen ihnen eingegangen wird. Danach widmet sich die Arbeit der Strafe, also ihrer Bedeutung und Funktion, bevor sie auf zwei Straftheorien und dem Täter-Opfer-Ausgleich, als Möglichkeit der Kombination von Strafe und Sühne, eingeht.
