Die vorliegende Publikation beleuchtet das leider viel zu selten dargestellte Verhältnis zwischen Sport und Politik in Deutschland. Es zeigt sich, dass zahlreiche Bereiche beider Disziplinen in höchstem Maße miteinander interagieren. Elementare sportpolitische Fragestellungen werden in diesem Buch durchgehend in gesamt- und gesellschaftspolitische Kontexte gesetzt und untersucht. Neben dem grundlegenden Verhältnis zwischen Sport, Sportwissenschaft und Politik werden außerdem mit der Wirtschaft, den Medien und den Sportorganisationen die wichtigsten Operatoren des Sports einer kritischen Untersuchung unterzogen. Im übergreifenden Kontext werden u.a. das politische Mandat des Sports sowie weitere aktuelle und zentrale sportpolitische Probleme behandelt.
