Auch alternde, psychisch Kranke werden aus Kostengründen in Pflegeheimen untergebracht.Die Pflegekräfte, die für diese speziellen Anforderungen nicht qualifiziert wurden, fühlen sich durch den Umgang mit aggressiven, verwirrten und depressiven Bewohnern stark belastet. Dennoch werden die Pflegedienstleistungen von immer weniger und schlechter ausgebildetem Personal erbracht.Die Lebensbedingungen, vor allem von Menschen mit Demenz, entsprechen dadurch oft einem 'Verwahrungsumfeld'. Es fehlt an angemessener psychosozialer Betreuung und deren Finanzierung. Die vorliegende Arbeit befasst sich mit der Frage, welche spezifischen Kompetenzen und Inhalte die Soziale Arbeit, angesichts der derzeitigen Rahmenbedingungen, in der stationären Altenhilfe beitragen kann, um die Lebensqualität und die Autonomie hochbetagter Menschen zu erhalten bzw. zu verbessern. In Kooperation mit einem Pflegeheim wurde ein Konzept für das Aufgabenfeld Sozialer Arbeit mit Hochbetagten in der Stationären Altenhilfe entwickelt.
