Shadows to Light

She didn’t love you. She bought you. And if she bought you, you were done.

Pearl Ellis lies dying in the hospital in the small town of Carbon, Kansas. Located near the Bible Belt, religion is a defining force in the culture of Carbon, but “good Christian” Pearl isn’t everything her fellow Carbonites think her to be. Her carefully crafted image hides a terrible secret that only her son, Max, knows.

As Max faces his mother one last time, he’s forced to face memories, family secrets, and the values of the people of Carbon. Shadows to Light explores the cost of one mother’s love and what it takes to face abuse, betrayal, and hatred and let go of a lifetime’s worth of pain and anger.
