Die ersten geschriebenen Verfassungen in Deutschland werden bis heute unterschätzt. Besonders in Kontrast zu den frühkonstitutionellen süddeutschen Verfassungen wurde dieser rheinbündische Konstitutionalismus der Jahre 1807-1811 lange Zeit als napoleonisch diktierter Scheinkonstitutionalismus abgewertet. In den Beiträgen dieses Sammelbandes werden die insgesamt sechs einzelstaatlichen Verfassungen sowie die Rheinbundakte analysiert. Damit wird sowohl der rheinbündische Konstitutionalismus rehabilitiert als auch neues Material für eine komparative Sicht auf die rheinbündischen Reformen bereitgestellt. Dies ermöglicht die präzisere Verortung der ersten deutschen Konstitutionen innerhalb der Entwicklung hin zum Verfassungsstaat in Deutschland.
