Paul is struggling with the early stages of recovery from addiction to pot and alcohol, trying to write and paint while figuring out what to do with his life, his teaching career as a professor having been interrupted by his addiction. His life is complicated by an increasingly tense relationship with his girlfriend, Jennifer, a former student of his, with their constant arguing driving Paul to the threat of relapse.
