In this inaugural anthology, CALMA-the Colorado Alliance of Latino Mentors and Authors-presents an illuminating collection of poems, short fiction, and essays, offering a compelling slice of Chicano history, one part of our contribution to literatura latina. Twenty-four contributors share evocative impressions encompassing the breadth of universal themes: romantic love; the importance of family; duty; frustration and triumph; the search for self; and the never-ending struggle for justice. We draw upon memories that refuse to remain buried and forgotten, from recuerdos dating back centuries to recollections as recent as yesterday.
