Erste zweisprachige (lat./dt.), kritische Neuedition eines der wichtigsten neulateinischen Jesuiten-Dramen, der Pietas victrix von Nicolaus Avancini (1611--1686). Das historische Drama bezieht sich auf den Sieg Konstantins des Großen über seinen Widersacher Maxentius (Schlacht bei der Milvischen Brücke, 312 n.Chr.). Der Text folgt der Editio princeps (Wien 1650), die jene für die Theatergeschichte wertvollen Regieanweisungen und die als Kupferstiche überlieferten Bühnenbilder (als Abbildung dem Band beigegeben) enthält. Eine ausführliche Einleitung (mit Bibliographie der Forschungsliteratur) informiert über den Autor, sein Werk und insbesondere die Pietas victrix als Bühnenstück. Neben dem kritischen Text werden die Varianten der Folgeauflagen und geänderte Passagen dokumentiert und übersetzt. Die deutschsprachige Perioche sowie das Verzeichnis der Schauspieler der Uraufführung ist beigegeben. Die Anmerkungen zum Text erläutern in knapper Form die wichtigsten Realien zum Text.
