Die deutsche Behördensprache ist meist alles andere als leicht zu verstehen und jedes Formular, das ausgefüllt werden muss, ist eine Herausforderung. Für leseschwache Menschen ist dies meist ohne Hilfe unmöglich.Die Forderung von „Mensch zuerst" gemeinsam mit dem Netzwerk „Leichte Sprache", alle wichtigen Informationen solle es auch zusätzlich in „Leichter Sprache" geben, ist unter anderem im Jahr 2009 ein Motto des europäischen Protesttages zur Gleichstellung behinderter Menschen. Viele Personengruppen sind auf eine leicht verständliche Sprache angewiesen, um nicht von Ausgrenzung bedroht zu sein. Nicht nur Menschen mit Lernschwierigkeiten profitieren von einer Barrierefreiheit im schriftsprachlichen Bereich.
