He rolls his eyes. "I'm treating you to lunch. Order what you want."
I say hesitantly, "The duck a l'orange sounds good." When I see the eye-widening price tag, I add hastily, "Or maybe the steak frites-"
He tells the server, "Forget the salad. She'll have both the duck a l'orange and steak frites. Medium rare." He looks at me. "You like your steak medium rare?"
Picking up my jaw from the floor, I nod.
"Thank you," I say once it's just the two of us in the private room again.
"When you're with me, you can get whatever you want." He says the words like it's inevitable that we'll spend time together beyond this scholarship-mandated lunch. Why am I feeling something akin to excitement at the thought? I shouldn't want to spend more time with my bully ex's dad.
And I certainly shouldn't be looking at his dad's lips and wondering how they would feel on my mouth...
