These stories suggest that inspite of so many changes, dowry is still a formidable social problem, just because of which ‘father’ in my story ‘Double Standards’ wants his daughter to be admitted in co-education college, so that she might choose some sweetheart there. ‘Slide’ and ‘‘False Vanity’’ are stories of determination of women and her desire of moving ahead.

The urge to return to the village, the desire to do something for the village and the relatives living in the village and the compulsion to do nothing, connects these stories with the present reality.
