Am 25. Februar 1987 vollendet Herbert Jacob sein 60. Lebensjahr. Seine Freunde und ehemaligen SchUler nehmen dies zum AnlaB, ihre Verbundenheit, ihre Anerkennung und ihren Dank durch eine Festschrift zum Ausdruck zu bringen. Herbert Jacob hat in den letzten drei Jahrzehnten die Entwicklung der an realen Problemstellungen orientierten, modellgestiitzten Betriebswirtschaftslehre insbe sondere auf den Gebieten der Preis-, Produktions- und Investitionstheorie sowie der Unternehmensbewertung entscheidend mitgepragt. Neben der Weiterentwicklung theoretischer Erkenntnisse ist ihm stets auch der konsequente Anwendungsbezug besonders wichtig gewesen. Die von ihm seit mehr als 20 Jahren herausgegebenen "Schriften zur Unternehmensfiihrung" und auch sein jiingstes umfangreiches Werk, eine empirische Untersuchung iiber "Preisbildung und Preiswettbewerb in der Industriewirtschaft",geben hiember ein eindrucksvolles Zeugnis. Auch sein Wirken zur Verbesserung der Hochschuldidaktik, das z. B. durch die langjahrige Herausge berschaft einer primar studentenorientierten Zeitschrift und durch programmierte Lehrbiicher zum Ausdruck kommt, verdient es, hervorgehoben zu werden. Seine erfolgreiche Tatigkeit ist bereits durch ehrenv~lle Rufe, durch Obersetzungen seiner Schriften und die Verleihung eines Doktor h. c. national wie international gewiirdigt worden. Mit dieser Festschrift wollen seine SchUler und Freunde damber hinaus zwei seiner vielen wissenschaftlichen Schwerpunkte hervorheben: Neue Entwicklungen in der von Herbert Jacob in besonderer Weise mitgepragten Produktions- und Investitionspolitik werden in diesem gemeinsamen Werk disku tiert. Das Gelingen dieses Vorhaben wurde yom Betriebswirtschaftlichen Verlag Dr. Th. Gabler in dankenswerter Weise gefOrdert. Die Autoren der vorliegenden Festschrift wiinschen Herbert Jacob, daB er noch viele Jahre voller Schaffenskraft der Weiterentwicklung des Faches, aber auch seinen dariiber hinausgehenden privaten Interessen widmen kann.
