Who was Emmanuel Trident?
Was he really Jesus Chris, as legend suggests?
On a wintry evening in 1941, a mysterious stranger suddenly appears in the crime-ridden village of Vesaria in the North Carolina mountains.
Emmanuel Trident brings harmony and prosperity to this formerly grim little community, wipes out the crime, and creates his own church where he appears naked and dedicated to an ancient androgynous deity. But then he marries the outcast, a transgender woman, Diana DuPree, and just a few months later he fathers the miracle birth of twin boys. Enraged at this blasphemy, Klansmen attack the family and nail this Mountain Messiah to a cross. But this atrocity is followed by a horrendous plague that wipes out the village, as forecast by the preacher should any harm come to his family.
Myth, however, claims Emmanuel Trident actually survived to escape into a magic cave in the side of the mountain and remains asleep-until a mystical sign awakens him.
His twin sons survive, with one becoming an internationally famous gay designer. His sibling becomes a blazing replica of his extraordinary father.
Together they vow to find their father-and discover if he really is the Messiah!
