Der Rhythmus ist ein allgegenwärtiges Phänomen, das natürliche Prozesse wie beispielsweise zeitliche Faktoren, körperliche Vorgänge und Musik ordnet und strukturiert. Durch Zyklen wie Tag und Nacht oder die Mondphasen wird der Mensch von äußeren Rhythmen beeinflusst. Er selbst ist ein polyrhythmisches, organisches System, was durch rhythmische Prozesse wie Atmung und Puls zum Ausdruck kommt. Menschen mit geistiger Behinderung fehlt oftmals das Gefühl für Rhythmus als strukturierendes und ordnendes Element. Es ist didaktische Aufgabe der Geistigbehindertenschule, diese Prozesse erfahrbar zu machen. Musikalische Rhythmen nehmen dabei Einfluss auf den Eigenrhythmus.Musik für Menschen mit geistiger Behinderung wird im Spannungsfeld zwischen Therapie und Pädagogik, zwischen ‚Erziehung durch Musik' und ‚Erziehung zur Musik' diskutiert. Daraus ergeben sich unterschiedliche Zielsetzungen, die sich jedoch durch gemeinsames Musizieren in der Geistigbehindertenschule vereinbaren lassen.Mit der vorliegenden Arbeit soll verdeutlicht werden, welchen Stellenwert das Musizieren auf Rhythmusinstrumenten in der Schule haben könnte, aber noch nicht hat.
