Die Carmina Burana ist mit ihren rund 300 Texten die reichste Sammlung mittellateinischer Lyrik. Der prächtige Codex dürfte um 1230, vermutlich im Auftrag eines lebenslustigen Abtes des Klosters Sekau in der Steiermark, entstanden sein. Den Namen Carmina Burana (Lieder aus Beuren) erhielt die Sammlung nach dem Kloster Benediktbeuren, wo sie im Jahre 1803 entdeckt wurde.Da die Carmina Burana in mittelaltlicher Notenschrift, Neumen genannt, geschrieben wurde ist es schwer ihre Melodien zu rekonstruieren. In diesem Buch sind jedoch ganze 40 Lieder in unsere moderne Notenschrift übersetzt und somit eine wertvolle Sammlung für jeden Musiker und Liebhaber.
