In 1859, sixteen-year-old Archie Gant, guilt-ridden over his part in the death of his folks, sets out on a quest to prove he is deserving of the breath he draws by finding a gold nugget the size of his fist. On his way west, Archie falls in with a weathervane maker, Capwinder O'Rourke, on a journey to take a Flying Mermaid, figure-headed at the bow of his wind sail wagon boat, overland, from the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean, before the deep sea portal back to her world closes. Is the Flying Mermaid, Capwinder named Missouree, real or a figment of his imagination? If she is real, what hold does she have on Capwinder to cause him to brave such an impossible voyage?
In the end, will Archie's hope for redemption hang in the balance between life and death and believing or not in a flying mermaid that can harness the wind and water?
This bigger-than-life action adventure salted with humor, a dash of fantasy and one harsh reality after another will surely keep you turning the page to see what happens next.
