Christian Gottlob August Bergt (1771-1837) wirkte über Jahrzehnte als Organist an einer der größten Simultankirchen Deutschlands: dem Dom St. Petri in Bautzen. Nahezu jede musikalische Gattung wurde von ihm mit Kompositionen bedacht. Die 1834 entstandene frühromantische Messe in Es-Dur ist eine der wenigen Messen Bergts mit sehr ungewöhnlichen Formmodellen, wobei der langsame Kyrie-Teil besonders markant heraussticht. Bemerkenswert ist auch das längere Orgelsolo nach dem Pleni sunt coeli sowie die opernhafte Sopran-Arie Lux orta est iusto im Offertorium.
