It was an ancient pocket book full of comments, notes and illustrations written by crew members of the WW1 Acheron-class destroyer, H.M.S. Jackal - an historical treasure-trove.The originator of this precious work was an ordinary rating by the name of Arthur MacDonald Hastie, who had left the empty pocket book in 3 Mess with the simple message: "Trusting my friends will all unite, to make the contents merry and bright."They certainly obliged. Those that could draw, filled the book with illustrations. Others left a few words, or an amusing ditty or two.The contents of the book are shared here as a small piece of First World War naval/social history for you to enjoy.
