Ze verzint een plan om haar andere zoon, Nero, te laten vermoorden en de schuld te geven aan Tiberius. Het plan loopt echter anders dan verwacht en Livia wordt uiteindelijk gestraft voor haar daden. Het stuk is een klassieke tragedie met thema's als macht, verraad en wraak.
