The book presents a study of Sindh Archives Information and Archives Department (SAIAD) conducted to reveal the treasure trove. This is an analysis of primary sources. It comprises of four parts, (a) An overview of terminologies, literature, descriptions, functions and responsibilities of archives, (b) History, buildings, responsibilities and holdings of National Archives of Pakistan, Punjab Archives, Peshawar Archives, Balochistan Archives, National Documentation Centre as a general review, as well as of the present repository of SAIAD, (c) Examination of the holdings of SAIAD comprises of original bound files of the Commissioner Office Record from 1832 to 1860, a collection of 765 manuscripts including 382 Arabic, 350 Persian, 33 Sindhi and Urdu, covering the period from 1830 to 1940 and more than 200 court files related to Karachi of 18th/19th century, and (d) An analysis of the General Library and Personal Collections of SAIAD and rare books explored according to their subjects, languages and rarity. Measures for the improvement of SAIAD have also been suggested.
