Zusätzlich soll erörtert werden, inwieweit künstliche Intelligenz eine fortschreitende Digitalisierung zur Folge hat. Die Produktion 4.0 umfasst bereits keine starre Wertschöpfungskette mehr. Stattdessen weist sie hochdynamische und flexible Produktions- und Dienstleistungs-Ökosysteme auf, welche auftragsbasiert eine individualisierte Produktion realisieren. Aus-gehend von kundenindividuellen Erfordernissen sollen Produktionssysteme autonom organisiert werden. Zur Erreichung dieses Vorhabens wird Künstliche Intelligenz eingesetzt, welche selbstständig Fertigungs- und Logistikstrategien verbessern soll.
