Immersi in una atmosfera psicologica-emotiva, databile dopo la fine della seconda guerra mondiale, il nonno, il Cavaliere, Sebastiano Spinuzza, possidente terriero ed ex Capitano dell'Esercito Italiano, progetta il suo finto rapimento per recuperare parte dei suoi beni gestiti dai nipoti. Coinvolge nel suo piano anche due anziane sorelle: Lucrezia De Stefanis, di cui è innamorato corrisposto, e la sorella, Teresa De Stefanis, segretamente fidanzata col figlio, Carmelo.
