Ze huwde een Surinaamse man die haar kennis liet maken met Suriname. Ze kwam in aanraking met de duistere en magische kant van dit land en kwam via een familielid van haar man in contact met het occulte. Korte tijd later deed ze haar intrede in de Rozenkruisersloge. Ze kwam echter in een geloofscrisis terecht. Door een ontmoeting met het genadeoord Medjugorje (Joegoslavië), en een aantal mystieke ervaringen, keerde ze terug naar het katholieke geloof. Maar dat ging niet zonder slag of stoot.
