Dies wirkt sich negativ auf das Selbstkonzept und die Lernmotivation aus. „Egal, was ich mache, ich kann das sowieso nicht" ist eine häufige Begründung dieser Kinder für ihren Misserfolg. Erfolgen wird meist nur Glück als Ursache zugeschrieben. Die Lernleistung der Kinder lässt dadurch nach, denn sie halten es nicht für nötig, sich mehr anzustrengen. Die Leistungseinschätzungen der Kinder weichen somit oft von denen der Eltern, ErzieherInnen oder LehrerInnen ab. Dies ist ein entscheidendes Problem der Ursachenzuschreibung (Attribution). Die Bewertung durch die Bezugsperson stimmt oftmals nicht mit der Erwartung des Kindes überein.Dieses Buch erklärt, untersucht und diskutiert ausführlich, wie solch eine Diskrepanz durch eine gute Kommunikation überwunden werden kann und sich somit der Attributionsstil, die Lernmotivation und die Lernleistung verbessern. Hierfür betrachtet es wissenschaftlich die Motivationstheorie, die Attributionstheorie sowie die Grundlagen der Reattribution und des Feedbacks und wendet diese in einer empirischen Untersuchung im Rahmen eines Reattributionstrainings in der Grundschule an.
