Der 13jaehrige Rafi wird von seinem Kibbuz in die Schule eines sozialistischen Kibbuz, eine Jugendrepublik, geschickt. Unterricht, Mitarbeit in der Landwirtschaft und Gruppenaktivitaeten bestimmen den Alltag der Jugendlichen. Alles Tun soll die gesellschaftlichen Probleme widerspiegeln. Rafi moechte über sich hinauswachsen, er traeumt davon Schriftsteller zu werden. Sein Ringen um persoenlichen Ausdruck bringt ihn in Konflikte mit seinen Lehrern. Kann er in der kollektiven Erziehung seinen individuellen Weg finden? Und dann ist da noch die kleine verschworene Gemeinschaft um seinen Freund Gadi, die eine Sondersprache entwickelt hat: ihr Versuch innerhalb der kollektiven Strukturen, den Alltag individuell mitzugestalten. Als Gadi und Rafi bemerken, dass es in der Jugendrepublik gar nicht so demokratisch zugeht, meint Gadi, dass sie in einer Utopie leben und schlaegt vor: Schreib doch ein Buch über uns und nenn es Topia - Ein-Ort der besteht, anstatt Utopia, Kein-Ort.
