The action of the story takes place over a five-day period, mainly in actual locations in the Chicago area. A special unit - code-named Hazmat - of the U.S. Army, trained to fight undercover in foreign locations using guerilla tactics, suddenly becomes a rogue gang. As the proceed mayhem, the widow of their former commander attempts to track them down with the help of a college professor. The Hazmat team, aware of their presence, tries to frustrate their search, killing and wounding people who get in their way. This is an exciting cat-and-mouse game - a thrilling and deadly chase with unexpected twists.
