Ho scritto quasi per scommessa, con mio cognato Piero, che mi chiedeva da tempo perché scrivessi un libro sulla frase che usava mio padre per indicare chi non lavorava nei campi. Una volta la gente dalla pelle chiara, potevano essere ricchi o anche solo chi aveva poca voglia di lavorare. Vi lascio immaginare quante volte lo diceva a me. Poco per volta mentre definivo la trama, mi sono entusiasmato, e è venuto un racconto fantastico, legato a fatti storici che vanno dall'impero Romano, La Mansio Quadrata, che era come un autogrill, all'invasione del nuovo mondo da avventurieri e schiavisti, e il dramma di un grande popolo, quello dei Pellerossa, massacrato in nome del progresso. La trama percorre anche il mio paese natale Casabianca di Verolengo, mi sono permesso di citare alcuni personaggi a me cari, due dei quali miei, carissimi amici che sono viventi e che ringrazio per avere autorizzato la pubblicazione. Comunque un intrecciarsi di storie commoventi, e brillanti. Il finale termina con trovate geniali.
