Durch das unablässige Rezitieren von Bibelversen oder die wiederholte Anrufung des Namens Jesu versuchten sie, ihre Gedanken auf Gott auszurichten, um in seiner ständigen Gegenwart zu leben. Eine solche Lebensweise können wir heutigen Menschen realistischerweise nicht übernehmen, doch eine kontemplative christliche Spiritualität lässt sich auch im Alltag leben. Die monastischen Gebetsweisen der lectio divina und des Jesusgebets können Hilfen sein, im Alltag eine tiefe Freundschaft mit Christus zu leben, indem wir das Wort Gottes zum Mittelpunkt unseres Lebens machen und daraus Kraft für den Alltag schöpfen.
